Week 11 - Social Media-Videos

Hey I just browse on the the first section of this week 11:
I love youtube for sharing, I already have an account there with my favotire videos and playlists.
My experience with myspacetv is cool, Oh I blog one of my favorites shows (MONK) in my account of Myspace. this is really WOW IMPRESSIVE.
I browse some videos about libraries videos, they are nice...well, Youtube is number one with Goggle video.
I will write you in a couple of days how was my experience with podcasts.

Google spreedsheet BCL 2.0

I made one spreedsheet and one presentation in Google docs and one word doc I called my journal in Zoho writer. I am really stunned with all these tools in Google and Zoho. I openned one account in each. I invite Amanda B. as collaborative.
I insert a picture in my journal.. It is really cool. You will see in my blog that I publish the presention from google docs and I publish my journal. I publish the excel in the google.

I have a very cute family, most of them live in Colombia, My mother, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and brother in laws. Except I have one sister living in Toronto, Canada, one brother living in rochester with his wife and their five kids, one sister in Germany with his husband and their daughters.

 

I do not have kids, but I have a bunch a nieces and nephews, I love them like they are my kids. My oldest niece is married and she has a beautiful baby. see the picture below.

 

 This is mar who is almost two years old. She is the most beautiful baby that I have ever seen.

 

I am living in Beaufort, south Carolina since October 2003, I am working at Beaufort County Library. This is a very happy place to work and this is the best happy place to live.

I am living with my husband bob, he is a nice guy, I love him.

 

Facebook & Myspace

I was looking the Alexa's data. It is not amazing ? the MySpace and Facebook has the highest registered users.
According to alexa' statistics, Hi5 is popular in Colombia, and Facebook is getting there too.

Week 8 -Social Networking-my experience

There are four questions to answer but I will answer them in all together. I am so stunned and flattered with all those social websites that I will share with you my impressions:
I browsed all of them and I will stick with "Facebook" and "My space". Actually I was already in facebook because I was invite from one of my nieces in Colombia. They started to send me notifications, and I finally accepted and I start to go around. Friends from Scotland have found me on Facebook. It is really neat. friends that I have lost contact before, they found me. it is cool to keep contact with them again through Facebook. So Facebook and my space apeals me and I will keep using facebook. I will use flickr. I love it.
Libraries: How can be used? well this IS REALLY AMAZING after listening the video from Michael Porter, I added the application "UIUC Library Search" to my facebook account and I can find any book that I want to look for. It will be great having the Beaufort Library will have that widget search to add to facebook so all patrons can see the catalogs of books, our latest releases on dvd, audiobooks, or magazines.
Perhaps, this is a crazy idea: Beaufort Library website having a platform as facebook and all patrons can see events, books, in one site and they can share any thoughts abouts books in one place. I know I am just having crazy ideas.
Well how all those social websites are so popular amongs teens ?. Actually teens are energetic and enthusiastic to research, I see my oldest nieces, they always love to go the internet, teaching my stuff, they were the ones that introduce to facebook. and reading the wikepedia, most of the those social websites, were primarily created for college students and then they were expanded abroad college boundaries.
I really want to see that I opened an account in myspace, I liked it a lot the beaufort county library myspace. it is really cool.

Another tip from Flickr

the last option of the flickr "spell with flickr" is really neat. you can find how write correct words, grammar stuff...

Flicker-ending week

This is my greatniece and I put this frame with flicker mashups.

See in my blog in the right site, the ocean and I put the bubbler thing.

I want to say that after exploring the mashups and tools in flicker, I had fun doing things like the cover magazine with my niece's picture in Germany, card maker, mosaic and email her all this fun things. She will love it. I uploaded in my flicker account. Oh you can click in this link and you will see it.

I had some issue to understanding the API, but I got it, Wendy Allen explained how the interface works. so I stared to explore it.

Oh one thing, I took a picture from my mother and sister and aunt and I did the "bubbler". I downloaded from my photos and I put coment and publish. it was really funny.

Another mashup that I used was the "Retriever". I made sketch of hearts in red color and very interesting photos came up. I made a pocket album, also.

I finish this photos flicker topic, but I will continue to explore more and more, I realized that flicker has a lot of fun things to do. I share my flicker things with some of my nieces. They liked.

I explore the pixer.us it was funny because I tried to change color, the my niece picture was funny.

I will print some card that I make.

My experience with the flickr was so wonderful. I came on Feb.23 to the open House, Dennis lend me his camera, I was having fun taking pictures all over the Bft branch, see this picture, it is really, Dennis taught me how to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer and now I have it in the flickr. Besides I make a map in the flickr, in beaufort map you will see some photos of the open house. CLICK in the link and you will see the map and then click in the pink circle and you will see the Open house photos.

my rollyo and mylibrarything week learning

Well I finish today my "librarything", "goodreads" and "rollyo". I am so happy with this tools. I enjoy more the librarything and rollyo than goodreads. I already invite some friends to my accounts. I have posted all my favorites books in the librarything, I put a widget in my blog. I can see that this is very useful tools for librarians, students at the school and college.

My wiki for the spanish project

Well, I just want to say that I just did the Wiki today, I just post one comment and I will address to the spanich committee about the Wiki that I created for the Espanol en Accion. I want to show to Dennis to see what he think about it.

Wikis

After studying Wikis this week, I have found very useful this tool. I am in a committee (as the Espanol en Accion), it is great to have a wiki that all the members can post, edit, add, things on it and we can keep inform instead of sending email back and forth. It is really efficient. It is really cooperative tool for project at the office project, or even college team groups.
I almost dare to say that the intranet at the library is in way a sort of wiki sense, I mean that is a collaborative and keep people informed what is going on.
I already opened a Wiki (you can click in the title of this posting).
It is very good that is not necesary to be "tech savvy"
I found excellent the idea to add the wiki functionality to the catalog that allows patrons post their comments, ratings or synposes about any book. so others can see how good or not good could be a book. Like Amazon.com
there are some application for the libraries that can be useful for the librarians, like wiki of ALA, they can share information regarding to research guides, training for librarians. The librarian can see places to go, or restaurant to go, if they are new in the area.
Something that I am not sure if having a wiki, people are ready to accept that somebody else can edit their content.

Adding comments to my last delicious posting

This posting is just to add more to my thoughts about delicious. Today is Friday and since I learned all this week Delicious. I am using quite a lot to check the vendors that I use for my job. It is really neat and friendly.

SOCIAL-BOOKMARKING LEARNING

Well my friends, I finish studying the delicious, I opened my own account. click in the link in this posting and you will my favorites links. I added in my network, reference desk at beaufort, wendy, dennis and other and I posted some of the blog from by co-workers.
I can see how useful can be delicious, I add my most visiting websites as Weather, CNN, WTOC, Colombia so in one place I can see my favorites. This is good for rearching. I can make a syllabes posting all the URL in my decilous account. I can see another links from other people. It is really great.

RSS - THE END OF THE CHAPTER

Wow, this chapter was very challenging and I am so flatter because I finished and now I have my google reader, I have my favorite actors, links about Lou dobbs, and colombian people among other links. Well I tried to put the local newspaper from my hometown but they have all that security things.
What I liked the most ? that keep me inform for the most updated information and news for the topics that I liked and I have jsut to go my accoutn in goggle reader.
How can I use it my job? It occurted to me that I can add feeds about the wheather in Beaufort, that will help me because in Hurracane season I translate the press release for the hispanic community.
for my personal life to be informed about Colombia.
The RSS service is installed in the library website, patrons all over the place will suscribed in their google reader and so they will know about us, it is a good idea of marketing, they will know about the updated information, programs, and services that the libraries offered. I will say this was challenging, and lovely.
ohhhhhh I suscribed all the blogs from my co-workeers.

Well I have to say that this blog section it was a sort of complicated but I sort of got it.
I will get more proficient.
